MEDIA ALERT: Ed Jarrett to Warm Up Winter at Laurita Ice Sculpture Festival

ED JARRETT TO WARM UP WINTER AT LAURITA ICE SCULPTURE FESTIVAL

Unique, Two-Day Event to Raise Money for Big Brothers Big Sisters

WHO:   Ed Jarrett, world-renowned sculptor and four-time Guinness World Record holder for the Tallest Sandcastle (www.tallestsandcastle.com), is embracing the freezing temperatures this winter. The Maine native is no stranger to the cold weather and has traded sand for ice the past few weeks to carve up some incredible creations, including a life sized igloo built from 5 tons of ice. And, once again, he’s doing it all for charity.

WHAT:   Laurita Winery (www.lauritawinery.com) in New Egypt, New Jersey, will transform into a vineyard ski lodge and play host to a family-friendly, winter wonderland event for all ages. Featuring ice sculptures by Ed Jarrett, classic winter activities, upbeat entertainment, and a variety of themed food and beverages, the Laurita Ice Sculpture Festival will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County (www.bbbsoc.org).

Over the past few weeks, Jarrett has sculpted huge blocks of ice into an antique fire engine big enough for visitors to sit in the driver’s seat, a fire breathing dragon luge slide, a field of snowmen, and a full-sized igloo. There will be an ice sculpting demonstration stage and a frosty photo booth. The event will feature Laurita’s award-winning wines, legendary sangria, spiked hot chocolate, hot apple wine ciders, five different food trucks, and fireworks Saturday night at 7:00.

WHERE:   Laurita Winery, 35 Archertown Road, New Egypt, New Jersey

WHEN:   Saturday, February 21, from 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. (fireworks at 7:00 p.m.) & Sunday, February 22, from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

PHOTO/INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES:

  • See the different ice sculptures and talk with Ed Jarrett about his work, including the possibility for a fifth tallest sandcastle attempt.
  • Watch families enjoying the event’s activities; talk to them about why they chose to attend.
  • Speak with Laurita Winery owners about the event and the fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County.
